Thomas Henry Hammonds, 92, a resident of Mill Creek, passed from this life Tuesday morning, July 31, 2012 at the Davis Memorial Hospital. He was born Thursday, May 27, 1920 at Webster Springs, a son of the late Robert Hammonds and Osie Tharp Hammonds. He was married to the former Mabel Gear, who survives. Others left to cherish his memory are two children, Pamela K. Friend, and Timothy L. Hammonds, fourteen grandchildren, Debbie Osborne, Kimberly Denney, Lonnie Straughn, Jr., Thomas J. Price, Jr., Crystal J. Price, Heather M. Price, Randy Hammonds, Misty Hammonds, Ashley Miller, Lauren Hammonds, Danielle N. Hammonds, Jason M. Hammonds, Danny R. Hammonds, Jr., and Kerry T. Hammonds, fifteen great grandchildren, Michael R. Stuart III, Joshua M. Stuart, Josie Straughn, Bailey Straughn, Teagan R. Price, Tiana J. Price, Arianna H. Price, Faith M. Hunt, Joshua M. Hammonds, Larry R. Hammonds III, Collin L. Jones Hammonds, Danni R. Hammonds, Tyler M. Hammonds, Brayden R. Hammonds, Troy S. Hammonds, a sister-in-law, Jody A. Hammonds, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Thomas in death were four children, Joellen Denney, Sandra S. Straughn, Danny R. Hammonds, and Larry R. Hammonds, three siblings, Mart Hammonds, Velma Hammonds, and Ira Hammonds. Thomas attended the schools of Randolph County, had served with the United States Army during World War II, and had worked in the coal mines and at Bethlehem Steel as a heavy equipment operator where he was a member of Union Local #311. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4PM and 6-8PM. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home chapel on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 1PM. The Reverend Randy Long will officiate and interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery where members of the H.W. Daniels Post #29, American Legion, Tygarts Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the West Virginia Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
