Jay Hugh Lewis, 84, a lifelong resident of Beverly passed from this life, early Friday morning, November 9, 2012 at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center. He was born Tuesday, October 30, 1928 at Beverly, a son of the late George Ernest Lewis and Virgie Belle Chenoweth Lewis. On May 19, 1951, he was married to Ressie Darlene Kyle Lewis, who preceded him in death on November 2, 2012. Jay is survived by nine children, Rev. Donald G. Lewis and wife, Rita, of Kentucky, Mary Leanette Cook, and husband, Jim, of Elkins, Robert Jay Lewis and wife, Becky, of Beverly, Rev. Terry Keith Lewis, and wife, Rev. Debbie Lewis, of Arnold, MD, Jerry Floyd Lewis of Beverly, Brenda Lea Tackett and husband, Rick, of Mill Creek, Mark Allan Lewis and wife, Tamara, of Elkins, Patricia Arlene Loftin and husband, Jeff, of Elkins, and Sarah Nicole Haden and husband, Greg, of Huttonsville, four sisters, Thelma Jean Stewart and Velma McElwee, both of Beverly, Ruby Phillips of Moorefield, and Letha Price of Elkins, twenty-four grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Jay in death was one son, Gregory Hugh Lewis, ten siblings, Ernest Lewis, Avon Lewis, Sonny Lewis, Jack Lewis, Buddy Lewis, Willard Lewis, George “Pete” Lewis, “Little Mack” Lewis, Helen Hinchman, and Dolly Weese. Jay attended the schools of Randolph County, had served with the United States Army, and worked as a self-employed auto mechanic. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Friday, November 16, 2012 from 12 Noon until 1PM, the funeral hour. The Reverend Leon Brown and Reverend Terry Keith Lewis will officiate and interment will follow at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery at Beverly.
