Edward William “Peck” Shaffer, 82, a resident of the Mt. Zion Community, passed from this life late Tuesday evening at the Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Elkins. He was born Wednesday, February 26, 1930 at Mt. Zion, the only son of the late Charles William Shaffer and Adis Dove Biller Shaffer. Peck is survived by four daughters, Louise Frymyer and Linda Knotts and husband, Russell, of the Mt. Zion Community, Carolyn Hall and husband, Charlie of Clarksburg, and Beverly Thompson and husband, Neil, of Dover, PA, eight grandchildren, Jessica Jolly and husband David, of Parsons, Holly Spessert and husband, David, Jr., of Hambleton, Bonnie Rohrbaugh and husband, Michael, of Oakland, MD, Angie Bartley and husband, Michael, of Mt. Zion, Christopher Hall of Clarksburg, Andrew Hall and wife, Liz, of Clarksburg, Evangela Meinhardt and husband, Scott of South Carolina, and Kristina Lewis and husband, Patrick, of North Carolina, eight grandchildren, Xander, Tessa, David, Dominic, Ivee, Calista, Amelia, and Abigail. Peck was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cathy Shaffer. Peck attended the school at Mt. Zion, had served with the United States Army, and had worked for various local sawmills, the WV Department of Highways, the Parsons Tannery, and retired from Kingsford where he worked cleanup. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, and picking on his grandchildren. He had attended the Sycamore Grove Church. Visitation will be held at the Sycamore Grove Church on Friday from 5 until 8PM. Funeral services will be held at the church on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 1PM. Reverend Pat Cassiday will officiate and interment will follow at the Pifer Mountain Cemetery where members of the H.W. Daniels Post #29, American Legion, WV Honor Guard and the Tucker County Veterans Association will present the American Flag. The Summerfield Funeral Home of Parsons has been entrusted with arrangements for Edward William “Peck” Shaffer.
