Obituary: DANIEL JOE STALNAKER Daniel Joe Stalnaker, 69, of Rt. #3, Philippi, died Saturday morning, July 13, 2013, in the Home Away From Home Assisted Living Center, Grafton, following an extended illness. He was born April 15, 1944, at Philippi, a son of the late William Chester and Helen Sarah (Talbott) Stalnaker. On August 13, 1965, he married the former Carla Joy Upton, who preceded him in death on July 22, 2009. Surviving are two sons, Daniel Joe Stalnaker Jr., Morgantown and Gregory Lyn Stalnaker and wife Angela, Philippi; grandchildren, Logan Stalnaker, Garrett Stalnaker and Kendra Stalnaker, all of Philippi; one brother, Jerry Stalnaker, Philippi; one sister, Dorothy Jean “Dody” Payne, Volga. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Jean Love and by a brother, William Stalnaker. Mr. Stalnaker was a retired equipment operator in surface mining. He had worked with Bruce Mining, Barbour Coal Co., 92/stalnaker Coal and Nesco Coal. He was a former member of the U.M.W.A. Mr. Stalnaker’s request for cremation will be honored. A memorial service will be conducted at 12:30 P.M. on Saturday, July 20, 2013 from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 South Main Street, Philippi., with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M., the service time. The Stemple & Forman Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
