BERNICE CROSTON Bernice Croston, 71, of Rt. #1, Flemington, died Wednesday, August 28, in the Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, following an extended illness. She was born March 14, 1942, at Philippi, a daughter of the late Hayward and Bertie (Mayle) Johnson. In 1960, she was married to Elsworth Croston, who preceded her in death on December 28, 1991. Surviving are one daughter, Mary Lou Johnson and husband, Howard, Philippi; four sons, Don Jr. Croston and wife, Dorothy, Earl Croston and wife Rachel, Elsworth Jr. Croston, all of Flemington, Johnnie Croston and wife Lorrie, Philippi; two sisters, Velvie Kennedy and Polly Poling, both of Philippi; two brothers, Jimmy Dale Johnson, Canton and Timmy Johnson, Philippi; ten grandchildren, Howard Lee Johnson, Don Hayward Johnson, Earl Byrd Croston, Jonathan Allen Croston, Amanda Dawn Croston, Bertie Lucinda Croston, Joshua William Croston, Matthew Scott Croston, Sarah Elizabeth Croston and Makayla Croston; seven great grandchildren, Dillon Lee Johnson, Liam Croston, Sierra Croston, Destinee Croston, Bernard Charles Foster, D’Andre Holloway and a great grandchild expected in April 2014. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Frankie Croston and by two brothers, Arlis Johnson and Dow Jr. Johnson. Mrs. Croston was a homemaker and attended Grace Temple.. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, September 2, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi. The Rev. Jay Mayle will officiate and interment will follow in the Welch Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Saturday, from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Sunday and from 9:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M., the funeral hour, on Monday. The Stemple & Forman Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
