OBITUARY: DOROTHY ALENE SANTEE Dorothy Alene Santee, 92, of Brown Avenue, Belington, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at her home following an extended illness. She was born November 23, 1921, at Valley Grove, W.Va. a daughter of the late harry H. And Villa (Galentine) McDonald. Survivors include two sons, Leslie Wayne Santee and wife, Patricia, Pomfret, Md., James David Santee and companion, Rachelle White, who was Dorothy’s care-giver; son-in-law, William R. Povish II, Philippi; one sister, Ruth Miller, Wheeling; grandchildren, William R. Povish III, Julie Lynn Santee and husband, James Vannoy, Nancyjo Santee; great grandchildren, Nicole Hudson, Kylie Muldoon, Tara Vannoy, Jessica Saltzman, Victoria Mills and three great great grandchildren; special friends, Richard and Linda Jones, Darlene Moats and Rachelle’s children, Zackery White, Isaiah White and Cieara White Harper. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Alene Povish, by granddaughters, Amy Elizabeth Shipley and Jill Ann Santee; by a brother, Paul McDonald and by three sisters, Jean Epler, Martha Pyle and Mary Higgins. Mrs. Santee retired from Barbour County Public Schools following 33 years service as a teacher’s aide, media specialist at Belington Elementary School and Title One Teacher at Belington Elementary and Middle Schools. She was also employed in the first Head Start Program in Belington. She was a member of the Barbour County Association of Retired School Employees. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, a Sunday School Teacher and advisor to Methodist Youth Fellowship. She was a member of Philippi Chapter #41, Order of the Eastern Star and a former member and Past Worthy Matron of Belington Chapter #81, Order of the Eastern Star, member and Past Noble Grand of Belington Rebekah Lodge and an advisor to Theta Rho. She was a former 4 – H Leader and was a charter member of the Barbour County Fair Association where she served on the Queen’s Committee. She was a member of the Woman’s Club of Belington and the Red Hat Society of Elkins. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 5, from the Schoonover – Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Avenue, Belington. The Rev. Jim Murphy, of Otterbein U.M. Church, will officiate and interment will follow in the Stringtown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. and on Thursday from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M., the funeral hour. Philippi Chapter #41, Order of the Eastern Star will conduct Memorial Services at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, in the funeral home chapel. Schoonover – Stemple Funeral Chapel was entrusted with arrangements.
