Stanley Wyatt Tuning, age 96 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life late Monday evening, October 28, 2013 at Nella’s Inc. at Crystal Springs, Elkins, WV.
He was born Saturday, March 31, 1917 at Pickens, WV a son of the late Oley Orval and Carrie G. Gregory Tuning. He was twice married. First, to the former Opal Hinzman, who preceded him in death. Second, on November 10, 1956 at Petersburg, WV, he was married to the former Nellie T. Nelson, who preceded him in death June 20, 1998. Surviving are three sons, Jack Tuning, of Jacksonville, FL; Daniel D. Tuning; and Clyde C. Tuning; four daughters, Fern Tuning Carter, of Elkins; Janice “Jerry” Tuning Carter, of East Dailey; Bonnie Tuning Hagan, of Brunswick, MD; Wilma Tuning Skidmore, of Elkins; several grandchildren; great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceding him in death are one son, Leon M. Tuning; three brothers, Marvin; Dallas; and Preston Tuning; and two sisters, Levere Lamareaux; and Dorothy McCarty.
He attended the schools of Pickens and worked as a Supervisor for Allegheny Lumber Company until his retirement. He was an avid squirrel hunter, fisherman, and baseball fan. He also enjoyed gardening and picking berries.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 1 to 2 PM. On Friday at 2 PM, at the funeral home a funeral service will be conducted. The Reverend Jim Murphy will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV.
