Alfreda Jean Jones, age 78 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Saturday October 26, 2013 at the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center at Elkins, WV. She had been in declining health.
She was born Wednesday, August 7, 1935 at Elkins, WV a daughter of the late Holiday Huff and Daisy Della Kittle Howell. On December 12, 1955 at Elkins, WV she was married to Benjamin Davis “Benny” Jones, who preceded her in death September 14, 2012. Surviving are two sisters, Eyvonne Mae Howell; Viola White, all of Elkins; one granddaughter, Emily Jones Phillips, of Elkins; five great grandchildren, Isaac Michael; Tyler Michael; Carleigh Brooke; Brynna Rae Phillips; Jace Shreve; a niece and two nephews that she and Benny raised, Della Phillips and husband Gary; Daniel Howell and wife Annie; and E. T. “Todd” Howell, all of Elkins; and several other nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are one son, Roger Ray Jones; four brothers, Alfred; Alvin; William; and Earnest Howell; and one great grandson, Eli Michael Phillips.
Jean was a graduate of Elkins High School, had worked for the former Fountain Cut Rate and worked for Rite-aid for thirty-two years, retiring as the Manager due to a disability. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Thursday, October 31, 2013 from 5 to 8 PM. On Friday, at 10 AM a funeral service will be conducted with the Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley officiating. Interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Airport Road.
