Betty Lou Myers Thornhill 1929-2013 Obituary
Betty Lou Myers Thornhill, age 84 years, a resident of Montrose, WV departed this life Wednesday morning, November 27, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family and under the care of Mountain Hospice. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to heart failure.
She was born Thursday, November 21, 1929 at Mt. Zion, Tucker County, WV a daughter of the late Irvin and Mary Helmick Myers. On September 29, 1951 at Baltimore, MD she was married to Franklin Earl Thornhill, who preceded her in death September 21, 2011. They had celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage. Left to cherish her memory are one son, Randy Thornhill and wife Cathy, of Montrose; two daughters, Kim Close and husband Jim, of Montrose; Linda Collette and husband Bob, of Hambleton; one sister, Cathern Hardy, of Rosedale, MD; seven grandchildren, James; Justin; Joe; Ryan; Chris; Angie; and Josh; five step grandchildren, Richard; Johnetta; Robert; William; and Brian; seven great grandchildren, Nicholas; Lacy; Cheyenne; Jacob; Valerie; Brittany; and Kayden and seven step great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death is one son, Franklin Keith Thornhill; two brothers, Francis; and Cleton Myers; and step great granddaughter, Abigail.
She attended the schools of Mt. Zion, was a former employee of the Umbrella Factory at Baltimore, MD, was a cook for the Tygart Hotel for many years and retired from Browning’s Elkins Foodland. She enjoyed spending time with her family and going to the Gospel Light Tabernacle, which she had attended for many years.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Friday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 1:30 PM. The Rev. A. H. Belt and the Rev. William “Bill” Hardy will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV.
