HAZEL GEORGIA KEISTER MURPHY, age 97 years, a long time resident of Parsons, WV, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Envoy Nursing Home at Staunton, VA.
She was born Tuesday, October 19, 1915 at Lanesville, WV a daughter of the late Isaac and Sarah Robey Keister. She was married to Burton Harry Murphy, who preceded her in death November 2, 1993.
Surviving are one son, Richard Murphy and wife Barbara; one grandson, Richard Murphy, Jr.; two granddaughters, Molly Hockaday and Amy Kirby; six great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are five brothers, Grover, Ole, Austin, Roy and Fred Keister; six sisters, Mervie Keister Kate Raines, Lona Long, Ratie Lipscomb, Lena Plauger and Evelyn Barr.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1932. During WWII, she was employed at the former Dorman Woolen Mill and later entered the Federal Civil Service. Most of her career was spent in the Washington, DC area at various Government Agencies and upon retirement in October of 1977, she returned to Parsons.
A Memorial Graveside Service will be conducted Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 1:30 PM at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows. The Rev. Phil Dent will officiate and interment will follow.
