Snoden Oliver Vance 1924-2013 Obituary
Snoden Oliver Vance, age 88 years, a resident of Harman, WV departed this life early Thursday morning May 2, 2013 surrounded by his loving family in the house that he had built by hand many years ago.
He was born Monday, November 20, 1924 at Onego, WV a son of the late Ralph Soloman and Gertie Kisamore Vance. On August 4, 1950 at Oakland, MD, he was married to the former Margaret Doloras Cooper, who survives. They had celebrated sixty two years of marriage.
Also surviving are two sons, Teddy Lee Vance and wife Susie “Sun” Sim of Elkins, Thomas Samson Vance and wife Charlotte Ann of Harman; two daughters, Linda Louise Wolford and husband Tony Lane of Harman, Faith Olivia Cragg and husband Timothy Schley of Elkins; three brothers, Harold Vance and wife Polly of Maysville, Wayne Vance of Indiana, Harry “Brison” Vance and wife Charlotte of Cherry Grove; one sister, Delores “Jean” Evans and husband Rev. Harold “Mick” of Maysville; five grandchildren, Sabrina, Shawn, Chad, Sheldon and Ashley and four great grandchildren; LeeAnne, Austin, Kyle and Brigette and one sister in law, Rose Mary Vance.
Preceding him in death is one brother, Barden Jacob Vance.
He attended the schools of Circleville, WV. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving as a Gunner on a Merchant Ship during WWII. He was an employee of Elkins Builders supply for 26 years and retired in 1986. He was a member of the N.R.A., the Disabled American Veterans and the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #5781 of Harman.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 5 to 8 PM. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home Monday, May 6, 2013 at 1 PM. Pastor Grey Hinkle will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, where the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29, American Legion, the Tygarts Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the United States Navy will conduct full military honors.
