DEVETTA ELLEN CHAMBERS NESTOR, age 77 years, a resident of Parsons, WV departed this life early Thursday morning, August 8, 2013 at Granville Manor at Parsons, WV with her family by her side. She had been in declining health for the past four years.
She was born Thursday, July 23, 1936 at Hambleton, WV, a daughter of the late Robert and Esther Chambers Watkins. She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1954. On December 23, 1953 at Elkins, WV, she married her high school sweetheart, Terrence Blake Nestor, who survives. They had celebrated fifty nine years of marriage.
Left to cherish Devetta’s memory is one son, Jeffrey David Nestor and wife Lisa of Charleston, WV; one daughter, Christie Cheryl Cook and husband Stephen of Franklin, KY; one brother-in-law, Ray Moore, Jr. of Tunnelton; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Brian, Terrin and Chase and two great grandchildren, Erika and Kennedy.
Preceding her in death are two sisters, Madonna Jean Plum and Jacqueline Kay Moore.
She was a dedicated military wife moving her family many times and making homes for them in far-flung places around the country and world, including New Mexico, Tennessee, Ohio, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Texas, and Germany. She was an excellent bowler and participated in the Parsons Women’s League for many years. A skilled artisan of knit products and an accomplished artist in oil, she also was a professional beautician working for the former Mary Ellen’s Beauty Shoppe.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Monday from 5:30 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 1:30PM. Pastor Allen D. Crosten will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV.
