JONAS EUGENE JOHNSON, SR., age 81 years, a resident of Etam, WV departed this life late Sunday evening, August 18, 2013 at Nella’s Inc. at Crystal Springs, Elkins, WV surrounded by his family.
He was born Thursday, November 19, 1931 at Elkins, WV a son of the late Arden and Mary Childers Johnson. On February 3, 1955 at Baltimore, MD he was married to the former Norma Lucille Friend, who survives. They had celebrated sixty-two years of marriage. Also surviving are three sons, Larry Eugene Johnson and wife Colleen, of Pasadena, MD; James E. Johnson and wife Barbara, of St. George; Jonas Eugene Johnson, Jr., and wife Mary, Etam; one daughter Linda Lee Jones and husband Rodney, Sr., of Kingwood; one sister, Mary Martha Nicholson, of Marley Park, MD; six grandchildren, Rodney, Jr.; Tanya; Jessie; Nicole; Shannon; and Joey; eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are two brothers, Jerls Glenwood Johnson; and one infant; three sisters, Ruby Elizabeth Poole; Geneva Lee Scarlett; and Norma Carol Richie; and two grandchildren, Larry, Jr.; and Jennifer Lee.
He attended the one room school at Isner Creek, Randolph County and the Baltimore Maryland schools. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Korean War, and was a former employee of the Harbison Walker Refractories Corp, where he was a pressman. He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union. He was a noted mechanic, reconstructing cars and motorcycles. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed camping.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM. On Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 7 PM, a celebration of life will be conducted by Pastor Rick Price. Cremation will follow.
