DENNIS NORMAN “DENNY” LONG, age 58 years, a resident of the Holly Meadows Community, Parsons, WV departed this life Saturday, evening, September 14, 2013 at his home. He had been in declining health, however his death was unexpected.
He was born Friday, October 18, 1954 at Parsons, WV, a son of Norman Abel Long, who survives and the late Cleta Mae Cross Long. He was married to the former Sophie Marie Shreve, who survives, Almond, WI.
Also surviving are one daughter Melissa Ann Long Jones and husband Brian; and three grandchildren, Briar Scott Heckler, Damion Isaiah Jones and Izabelle Marie Jones, all of the Pheasant Run Community, Kerens, WV.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1973. He was an employee of the former Lambert’s Chevrolet Company, the former Wratchford Esso Service Station and he was an employee of the Kingsford Charcoal Company, where he retired. He was a hunter and fisherman. He was an avid hot rod enthusiast and race car driver at Eldora enjoying old muscle cars and motorcycles and he enjoyed going to concerts with his daughter.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday from 5:30 until 7:30 PM. On Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 7:30PM, a Celebration of Life service will be conducted by Pastor Adam Snyder. At Denny’s request, cremation will follow.
