Dalton Ray “DJ” Johnson, Sr., 63, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Monday, January 26, 2015 at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center. DJ was born Thursday, August 2, 1951 in Elkins, a son of the late Lewis Johnson and Minnie Ellen Amos Johnson who survives in Elkins. Also left to cherish DJ’s memory are two children, Joyce Antley and husband Stephen of SC and Dalton “D” R. Johnson Jr. of Elkins, lifetime companion, Patty Johnson of Elkins, four grandchildren, Brandon and Hailey Antley and Kyle and Dalton “Ethan” Johnson, two brothers, Gary Johnson of MS, Robert Johnson of Elkins, two sisters, Barbie Fischer of Elkins and Pam Rettzo of Ellamore. Preceding DJ in death besides his father was one sister, Sharon Johnson. DJ attended the schools of Randolph County and was a graduate of Elkins High School. He had been employed as a mineral miner for Climax Molybdenum in Colorado. DJ loved to dabble in his workshop. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and picking wild mushrooms. He really loved playing music on his guitar and banjo. DJ was an accomplished leather craftsman, making all sorts of different items including belts and his favorite jacket. DJ’s request for cremation was honored and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
