William Christie Bill Charters 1936-2015 Obituary
William Christie “Bill” Charters, 79, a resident of Dailey, passed from this life Monday evening, March 9, 2015 at the Hospice Care Inpatient Center in Elkins.
Bill was born Thursday, February 20, 1936 in Nyack, NY, a son of the late William P. Charters and Ruth Eleanor Gates Charters.
Bill had never married.
Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his two sisters, Elizabeth Gibbons of Pennsylvania and Linda Durkin of Kentucky, five nieces and nephews, Sandra J. Gibbons of New York, Carol Ann Trainor of Pennsylvania, Shannon Overberg of Kentucky, Sean Michael Durkin of Indiana, and William Patrick Durkin of Kentucky, and his Valley Independent Baptist Church family.
Bill was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Rogers. Bill was a graduate of Nyack High School in New York with the class of 1954, had served with the United States Army, and had worked as a meter reader for Orange and Rockland in New York.
He was a Ham Radio operator, enjoyed shooting black powder rifles and cross stitch, and he was a big Civil War buff.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 11AM until 1PM, the funeral hour.
Pastor Frank Stanley will officiate and interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville.
