Alston Glenn “Al” Schoonover, 79, a resident of Mill Creek, passed from this life Saturday, April 25, 2015 at home. Al had been in his usual health and death was unexpected and attributed to a heart attack. Al was born Friday, April 3, 1936 in Elkins, a son of the late Freeman and Myrtle T. Schoonover. On July 7, 1977 in Huttonsville, he married the former Loraine Jewell Cutright who survives in Mill Creek. They celebrated thirty seven years of marriage. Also left to cherish Alβs memory are seven children, Joyce Conrad and Glenna Smith, Allen and Tim Schoonover, all of CO, Patty Lambert of Mill Creek, Peggy Morgan of Elkins and Allen Wilson of Belington, two brothers, Charles and Dellis Schoonover, seven grandchildren and one special grandson, Johnny Lanham who Al and Loraine raised. Preceding Al in death besides his parents was one son, Robert G. Schoonover, four siblings, Opal McSpadden, Carl and Texas Schoonover and Eddie Sisler and one granddaughter Christina Lynn Wilson. Al attended the schools of Randolph County and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He had been employed with Strawder Mobile Homes, Hogan Transfer and Burns Motor Freight; where he was employed in 2006 when he was given the American Trucking Association Award for 2,000,000 perfect miles and where he later retired. More recently, he drove part time for Wilson Quality Millwork Inc of Elkins. Al will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. He will greatly be missed by all who knew him. A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 11AM until 1PM, the funeral hour. Rev. Randy Long will officiate and members of the H.W. Daniels Post #29, American Legion, and the Tygarts Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars will provide military honors. Interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens.
