Jack Robert Harper, 85, a resident of Montrose, passed from this life Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Nella’s Nursing Home in Elkins. Jack was born Sunday, August 11, 1929 in Onego, a son of the late William Harper and Elva Turner. On July 18, 1995 in Montrose, he married the former Wanda “June” Kisner who survives in Montrose. Also left to cherish Jack’s memory are eight children, Robert Harper of Elkins, Barbara Sue Harper of Mt. Storm, Jackie Rudman of NC, Darlene Heckler of Parsons, Gary Canfield of Valley Bend, Harold Canfield of Norton, Cathy Williams of KS and Nancy Sharp of Elkins, two sisters, Junetta Flynn and Betty Nelson, both of VA, eighteen grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. Preceding Jack in death besides his parents was one son, Steven Harper, two brothers, Gary and Dick Flynn and one sister, Yvonne. Jack attended the schools of Pendleton County. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and had been employed as a long distance truck driver, a school bus driver and a Senior Companion with Region VII. He loved to work in the garden and help Wanda with canning. After a doctor had his driver’s license taken away, Jack would hop on his riding lawn mower and tour Montrose. Jack loved to socialize and made friends with everyone he met. He never met a stranger. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2015 from 11AM until 1PM, the funeral hour. Rev. Terry Cannon will officiate and interment will follow in Little Arlington Cemetery in Cravensdale where members of the H.W. Daniels Post #29, American Legion, and the Tygarts Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars will provide military honors.
