Dolley Louise Shahan Owens 1930-2015 Obituary
Dolley Louise Shahan Owens, 84, a resident of Parsons, passed from this life late Sunday evening, May 31, 2015 at Garrett Memorial Hospital in Oakland, MD. Dolley was born Monday, December 22, 1930 in the Licking Creek Community, a daughter of the late Chester Ray Shahan and Decota Merle Plum Shahan.
On May 7, 1949 in Oakland, MD, she married Melvin O. Owens, who survives.
They had celebrated sixty-six years of marriage. Also left to cherish Dolley’s memory are six children, Mary Linton and companion, Ronald Nice of Evansville, Douglas Owens and wife Sandi of St. George, Steven Owens of Masontown, Timothy Owens and companion, Brenda Browning of Hendricks, Paul Owens and wife, Karen of Amity, AR, and Robert “Mark” Owens of St. George, one sister, Lucille Nestor of Alexandria, VA, sixteen grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Dolley was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Bruce Owens, a grandson, Chad Owens, a great grandson, Seth Owens, a sister, Rosalie Patrick, a brother, Alfred Shahan, and a son in law, Denzil Linton. Dolley was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1949 and was a homemaker.
She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, gardening, and working with her flowers. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and will be missed by them. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Parsons.
A visitation will be held at Summerfield Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6P-8P. A funeral service will be conducted from the funeral home chapel Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 11:00A. Pastor Walter Cardenas will officiate and interment will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery near St. George.
