Arthur “Carl” Varner, 82, a resident of the Sugarlands community, passed from this life Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected. Carl was born Friday, September 2, 1932 in Dry Fork, a son of the late Baden Varner and Alice Day Varner. Left to cherish Carl’s memory is one brother, Fred Varner and wife Sandra of Belington, two sisters, Jean Mullenax of Parsons and Ann Jones of Terra Alta and his dog, Charlie Pride. Preceding Carl in death besides his parents were three siblings, Richard and Worth Varner and Shirley Parsons. Carl attended the schools of Tucker County and had been employed as a laborer at the Mullenax Lumber Company. He was always a hard worker, an avid outdoorsman and loved to work in his garden. Carl loved his family and will be missed by all who knew him. He was a good Christian man and attended the Church of God on Location road. A visitation will be held at the Summerfield Funeral Home in Parsons Friday from 6P-8P. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 10:30A. Rev. Pat Cassidy will officiate and interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery in Holly Meadows.
