Daryl Ray Blankenship, 66, a resident of Elkins, went to be at home with the Lord at 1:55pm, Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown with his loving family by his side. Daryl was born Wednesday, February 9, 1949 in Richwood, a son of the late Shirley Blankenship and Iva Mae Pritt Blankenship. On September 8, 1984 in Elkins, he married the former Brenda Faye Cadle Workman who survives in Elkins. They celebrated thirty one years of marriage and enjoyed a good, happy and loving life. Also left to cherish his memory are four children, Sabrina Blankenship Ward and husband Eric of Elkins, Julie Martinez-aguilar and husband Luis of Morgantown, Stephanie Blankenship of Winter Garden, FL and Miles Workman and fiancé India Chenoweth of Manasses, VA, seven siblings, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Daryl raised his granddaughter Lexus as his own daughter since she was two days old and she is now eleven. Lexus adored and loved her Papaw dearly. Preceding Daryl in death besides his parents were three siblings. Daryl attended the schools of Fayette County and had been employed with several companies. He was a coal miner for approximately thirty seven years and worked in various mines throughout the area. In his younger years, he liked to hunt and fish. Even though his breathing became labored, he still made time to take Lexus fishing. Daryl was friendly to all and would do anything to help someone. He would even give away his clothes to someone in need which he did while working in Virginia. Daryl made friends wherever he was. He was loved and will be missed by many, especially his family. A visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Friday, October 23, 2015 from 2P-3P, the funeral hour. Elder B.J. Manning will officiate. Daryl’s request for cremation will then be honored.
