ADIS RUTH SHAFFER Adis Ruth Shaffer, 96, of Rt. #2, Philippi, died Sunday, August 8, in Mansfield Place, Philippi. She was born March 17, 1914, at Rockford, Barbour County, a daughter of the late William Elias and Carrie Blaine (Boyles) Mouser. On January 14, 1939, she was married to George Washington Shaffer, who preceded her in death on September 23, 2007. Survivors include, two daughters, Eleanor Robertson and husband, David, Locust Grove, Va., Shirley La Croix and husband, Tom, Raphine, Va.; four sons, Milton C. Shaffer and wife, Janet, Ira L. Shaffer and wife, Betty, all of Winchester, Ind., John R. Shaffer and wife, Nancy, Philippi and Harry Thomas Shaffer and wife, Mildred, Parsons; two granddaughters, Beth Auker and Kristy Wolford; five grandsons, Lowell Shaffer, Ronnie Bevins, James Shaffer, Thomas Shaffer and Kevin Shaffer; five great grandchildren, Logan Shaffer, Hayden and Rogan Auker, Zachary and Tristan Wolford. She was the last member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by three sisters, Opal Virginia Nestor, Margie Frances Cross and Leithel Frill; and by six brothers, Denzil Carl Mouser, James Wesley Mouser, Harold Mouser, Darl Mouser and Jay Mouser. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Craig Shaffer. Mrs. Shaffer was a life long resident of Barbour County. She was homemaker, a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was an avid gardener. She was Methodist by faith and last attended the New Hope Valley United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 11, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 South Main Street, Philippi. The Rev. Kenny Kendall and the Rev. Dennis Estes will officiate and interment will follow in the Marsh Graveyard at Tacy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Tuesday and from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M., the funeral hour, on Wednesday.
