Alfred Fritz Phillips 1928-2002 Obituary
Alfred “Fritz” Phillips, 74, a resident of Coalton, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Phillips was born July 9, 1928, in St. George, a son of the late Homer C. and Belva M. Boyles Phillips.
He was married to Wilma Gene Lambert Phillips, who preceded him in death in March 1994.
Surviving are two sons, Alfred E. Phillips and fiancee, Mary Bartock, Baltimore, Md., and George E. Phillips and wife, Carol, Buckhannon; two daughters, Alfreda J. Markwood and husband, Rodney, Joppa, Md., and Mary E. Phillips and fiance, Cecil Seal, White Hall, Md.; three granddaughters, Katie Markwood, Shannon Phillips and Kristyn Ditzler; one stepgrandson, Ernest Gibson; one stepgreat-grandson, Brandon Gibson; one brother, Ronny Markley, Mabie; and one sister, Kathleen Chewning Rowan, Elkins.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale G. Markley and Cecil Markley; and two sisters, Gretha F. Markley Moran and Dorothy June Phillips Lambert.
Mr. Phillips served in the U.S. Army in 1951-52 during the Korean War. He retired in 1992 following 38 years of service as an equipment operator for Continental Can Co. of Baltimore, Md.
He was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at the Tomblyn-whitescarver Funeral Chapel on Monday from 10 a.m. until noon. Immediately following visitation, graveside services will be at the Mt. Union Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Neal Parsons. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care, 629 North Ave., Elkins, W.Va., 26241.
