Alice Virginia Jones, 99, of Buckhannon, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020, at Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon.
She was born Dec. 23, 1920, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Lyman Edwin and Delphia Ellen Loudin Phillips.
On Oct. 3, 1942, she married Burl D. Jones, who preceded her in death on May 8, 2005.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Phillips.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Sheets of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Debbie Weese and husband, David, of Buckhannon; one grandson, Brandon Weese and fiance, Nicole Brown, of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Stephanie Haglund and husband, Kraig, of Raleigh, and Jessica Reed and husband, Billy, of Lost Creek; two great-grandsons, Kody Haglund of Raleigh and Brody Reed of Lost Creek; two great-granddaughters, Aubry Reed of Lost Creek and Gabriella Weese of Buckhannon; one sister, Mable Hupp of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Jones was a librarian and throughout her career worked at the Stonewall Jackson Regional Library, Upshur County Public Library and the Central Elementary School Library. She was also an avid camper and a member of the Upshur County Pioneers Society, Square Dancers Club, Triple T, Upshur County Historical Society and the Women of Kiwanis. Mrs. Jones was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and was an active participant in the women’s Sunday school class and also served as their librarian. Additionally, she served as the Super Intendent of the Children’s Department at the Central Methodist Church.
Friends will be received Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at from the funeral home with Pastor Adam Burkhammer officiating. In honoring Mrs. Jones’ wishes she will be cremated following the service.
