Anna B. Currence, 62, a resident of Elkins, departed this life on Saturday, July 20, 2002, at 11:43 p.m. in Ruby Memorial Hospital, where she was admitted earlier in the day. She had been in her usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.
She was born Sept. 1, 1939, at Mabie, a daughter of the late Rufus and Rebecca Jane Shreve Watson.
She was twice married, first to Mason Scott, who survives on the Adolph Road. On June 27, 1971, she was united in marriage to Marlie Marvin Currence, who preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 1979.
She is survived by a special friend of 12 years, Willie Howell of Elkins; four daughters, Deena Bender, Mrs. Paul (Judy) Himes, Lesa Scott and Mrs. Shannon (Marlene) Lloyd, all of Elkins; five sons, Mason “Buck” Scott and wife, Donna, and Danny Scott, both of Valley Bend, Curtis Scott and wife, Paula, of Norton, Marlie “Doopy” Currence and fiance, Angie, of Elkins, and Dana Scott and wife, Stephanie, of the Chenoweth Creek community; four stepchildren, Julian Currence of N.C., Charlie Currence and Mrs. Rex (Phyllis) Weese, both of Elkins, and Mary Lou Currence of Mill Creek; five sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Edith) Ratliff of Sinks Grove, Mrs. Ronald (Ruby) George, Mrs. Gene (Thelma) Rowan, Mrs. Roy (Ruth) Moore and Mrs. Neal (Edna) Shockey, all of Mabie; and one brother, Thomas R. Watson and wife, Wanda, of Southington, Ohio; 25 grandchildren, Christina, Nevin, Morgan, Cassie, CJ, Amanda, PJ, Shawn, Roxy, Debbie, Danny, Ashley, Natasha, Chelsea, Chad, Scotty, Bryant, Lee, Willie, Crystal, Julie, Julian, Chelsea, Ashley and Abby; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were an infant sister, Rebecca Grace; four brothers, Howard D., Willard, Clifford and John Watson; and a great-granddaughter, Tiffany Brooke Arbogast.
She was a caretaker for elderly people in the Elkins area for several years. She was a self- taught guitar player and loving gospel music she played in churches, at Nella’s and at Picking in the Park. She attended the Full Bible Church.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Wednesday after 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner chapel on Thursday at 1 p.m. Pastor Charles Leonard Taylor and Pastor Delmas Johnson of the Full Bible Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Fincham Chapel Cemetery near Adolph.
