Arnold Chalmers Sutherland Jr 1936-2015 Obituary
Arnold Chalmers Sutherland Jr., age 79 years, a resident of Coalton, WV, departed this life early Thursday morning, July 16, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family and with the care of Hospice Care Corporation.
He had been in declining health.
He was born on Monday, June 22, 1936 at Cassity, WV, a son of the late A. Chalmers “Chad” Sr. and Gladys Marie Williams Sutherland.
On June 5,1970 at Clintwood, VA he was married to the former Connie Shea Damron, who survives.
They had celebrated forty five years of marriage.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kimberly Michelle Sutherland Currence and husband Jacob of East Daily, and Sabrina Lena Marie Sutherland of Elkins; three brothers, Dana Robert “Bobby” Sutherland and wife Carolyn of Mabie, Larry Kenneth” Kenny” Sutherland of VA and William “Bill” Zirkle and Sandy of Mabie; two sisters, Shirley Rhodes and husband Daniel of Davis and Marsha Zirkle Lanham and husband Kelmer of Mabie; two great aunts, Daisy Currence of Mabie and Violet Hodges of Buckhannon; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are one infant daughter, Constance Sutherland and one brother, Jerry Sutherland.
He attended the schools of Cassity and Coalton.
He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict.
He was an employee of the former Bayard coal mine, he was a car salesman and a former employee of Edward C. Levys steel company at Michigan.
He was mechanically inclined and a car enthusiast.
He was a hot-rodder and loved to drive fast.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Sunday from 5 to 8 PM.
On Monday, July 20, 2015 at 1 PM, a funeral service will be held at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Murphy officiating.
Interment will follow at the at the Rowan Cemetery at Mabie, WV, where the H. W. Daniels Post # 29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military honors.
