Bernice Day Griffith, 77, a resident of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center in Belington, died at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002 in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins. She had been in failing health for the past several years.
She was born Oct. 11, 1924, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Clark and Fannie Frances Day.
On March 28, 1934, she married James Harvey Griffith, who preceded her in death Aug. 8, 1994.
Surviving are one son, James Robert “Sonny” Griffith, Thornton; two daughters, Betty Lou Ryan and husband, Butch, Belington, and Janet D’Allesandro, Portsmouth, Va.; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by all of her siblings, being the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Griffith attended the schools of Upshur County, was a homemaker and owner-operator of the Cotton Bowl in Belington for many years.
She was a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Meadowville.
Private family funeral services were held Feb. 9 from the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington. Interment followed in the Concord Cemetery near Belington.
