Bernice Rettah Streets, 96, of the Good Samaritan Center in Belington since 1990, died at 2:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, in the center. She had been in declining health for the past several years.

Mrs. Streets was born Jan. 21, 1906, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late James D. “Met” and Lillie Mae McCauley Poling.

On Oct. 1, 1922, in the former EUB Church in Belington, she married H.D. Streets, who preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1962.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. William (Jean) Carr, Wellsville, Ohio, Mrs. Harold (Mildred) Talbott, Belington, Mrs. Don (Betty) Nugent, Cottontown, Tenn., and Mrs. Louis (Thelma) Nims, Maple Grove, Minn.; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Waddell; three brothers, Denzil H. Poling, Ronald J. “Jack” Poling and Edward G. Pete” Poling; a sister, Beatrice Farley; an infant brother, Forest; two stepdaughters, Genevieve Knight and Goldie Ellis; two stepsons, Harry and Delbert Streets; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Streets attended the schools of Barbour County. She was a member of Barbour Church of Christ and the Talbott Farm Women’s Club. She was a homemaker.

Friends were received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington Sunday and today until noon at which time she was moved to Talbott United Methodist Church, where friends were received from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Arden Beck officiating. Interment followed in Talbott Cemetery.
