Bertie Viola Davy Barkley 1932-2021 Obituary
Bertie Viola Davy Barkley, age 88 years, a resident of Parsons, WV departed this life Tuesday evening, October 19, 2021, at Cortland Acres at Thomas, WV.
She was born Sunday, December 18, 1932, at Cassville, WV, a daughter of the late Sylvia Ann Winters and William Lee Davy, Jr. She was married to Edward Woodrow Barkley, who preceded her in death January 21, 1987.
Surviving are four sons, Russell Lee Barkley of Bretz, Edward Lynn Barkley and wife Jackie of Flemington, Donald Alvin Barkley and wife Rebecca of Parsons and Daniel William Barkley and wife Tonya of Hambleton; step-son, David Edward Barkley and wife Kathy of Philippi; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one son, Timothy Phillip “Timmy” Barkley; two grandchildren, John Daniel Barkley and Dawn Williams; three brothers, Garrett Theodore Davy, Walter Linwood Davy, Sr. and Alfred Charles Davy; four sisters, Hazel Idalene Reese, Sylvia Belle Beegly, Winona Davy and Ruth Poling.
She was a graduate of Bayard High School at Bayard. She was a former employee of a glass factory at Baltimore, Md., the Kingsford Charcoal Co., and she retired from the Island Creek Coal Co., where she was a roof bolter, retiring during 1995. She was a very proud and hard-working woman. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and she loved her children and her grandchildren. She was very caring and would do anything for anybody.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday from 4 PM to 7 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 10 AM. The Rev. J. Michael Lantz and The Rev. David Fuller will officiate and interment will follow at the Bayard Cemetery at Bayard, WV.
