Bessie Canfield Wilfong 1936-2010 Obituary
Bessie Canfield Wilfong, age 73 years, a resident of Montrose, WV, departed this life Sunday afternoon February 21, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She had been in declining health since November 2009.
She was born Monday, June 15, 1936 at Montrose, WV a daughter of the late Calvin Canfield and Icie Cross Canfield. On October 10, 1954 at Montrose, WV she was married to Leroy Allen Wilfong, who survives. They had been married for fifty-five wonderful years. Also surviving are one son, Roy Allen Wilfong and wife Brenda, Montrose; five brothers, Ray Canfield and wife Marie; Truman Canfield and wife Joyce, all of Montrose; Troy Canfield, Barbour County; Sance Canfield and wife Becky, Elkins; Ward Canfield and wife Carolyn, Tucker County; two sisters, Pauline Arbogast, and Hazel Bedford and husband Guy, both of Montrose; two grandchildren, Patrick and wife Shannon, Elkins and Allison and husband P. J., Michigan.
Preceding her in death are two sons, Michael Douglas and Randy Lynn Wilfong; two brothers, Willie and Thurman Canfield; two sisters, Anna Grace Null and Mary Evie Newlon and one great grandson, Jack Allen Wilfong.
She attended the schools of Montrose, was a homemaker, was the operator of Canfield’s Service Station at Montrose for several years and was a child care provider for many children in the Montrose area. She was a member of the Mercy Chapel United Methodist Church, was a noted cook and loved to share her baked goods and candies and enjoyed making crafts and collecting angels.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 1 PM. Pastor Charles L. Stevens and the Reverend Jim Murphy will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Bessie Canfield Wilfong.
