Betty Louise Edens, 74, of Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care, and formerly of 216 Maple St., Philippi, died at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.

Mrs. Edens was born June 22, 1927, in Hammond, a daughter of the late Isaac and Ethel Mitchell Haddix.

On May 10, 1944, she married Orville E. “Chuck” Edens, who preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1997.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary E. and Jerry Marteney, Buckhannon, and Catherine Edens, Lewisburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Adonis Edens, Philippi, and Calvin and Elizabeth Edens, Green Bay, Wis.; two sisters, Myrtle Upton and Delores Kennedy, both of Philippi; a brother, Howard Haddix, Canton, Ohio; three grandchildren, Barbara Gordon, Teresa Henderson and Tracy Roth; and four great-grandchildren, Angie Skorczeski, Tyler Gordon, Jordan Roth and Peter Roth.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, John Edens and Allan Edens; three sisters, Elsie Isner, Norma Humphreys and Ruth Wilson; and two brothers, William Haddix and Calvin Haddix.

Mrs. Edens was a homemaker. She was a member of Laurel Mountain VFW Post 410 Ladies Auxiliary.

She was a United Methodist by faith.

Funeral Arrangements: Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, Wednesday after 4 p.m. On Wednesday, at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, Laurel Mountain VFW Post 410 Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Thursday at noon with the Rev. Gary and Alicia Rapking officiating. Interment will follow in West Virginia National Cemetery.
