Billie Lee Rhodes 1942-2021 Obituary
Billie Lee Rhodes, age 79 years, a resident of Glady, WV departed this life early Monday morning, September 13, 2021 at the United Hospital Center at Bridgeport, WV surrounded by his loving family. He had been in declining health for the past year.
He was born Tuesday, June 9, 1942 at Glady, WV a son of the late Jim Isaac and Bethel Mae Vance Rhodes. On October 4, 1965 at Oakland, MD he was married to the former Linda Sue Nutter, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Kelly Lee Rhodes and wife Helen of Parsons and their daughter Jamie Lynn Rhodes and fiancé Jeff Tompkins and their sons Aaron and Eliott Tompkins; one daughter, Peggy Sue Hedrick and husband Kevin of Glady and children, John Burgess and companion Hillary Paugh and their daughter, Avaleigh Burgess, and Meagan Simmons and husband Damen; one brother, Jerry Rhodes and wife Sandy of Glady; three sisters, Shirley Thompson of Beverly, Charlotte Pennington and husband George of Harman, and Barb Lawrence and husband Jamie of Dry Fork; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Rhodes of Glady; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are two brothers, James Edward “Ed” Rhodes, infant Ira Rhodes; one sister, Bonnie Bodkins and two brothers-in-law Lapel Bodkins and Thomas Thompson.
He attended the schools of Randolph County receiving his GED and was a member of the National Guard for six years. He was employed at Columbia Gas for thirty-four years retiring in 2000. When he was in better health he attended the Brethren Church at Glady. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and gardening and reading his Bible every day. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 6 PM, Thursday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Friday, September 17, 2021 at 11 AM. Pastor David Collins will officiate and interment will follow at the Glady Cemetery at Glady, WV.
