Take a big log, cut in half, hollow out the inside into two chambes to get two sounds – put the two halves back together and you get a BIG drum, using the two different sounds to send morse code
And a drum ‘beater’ profile that looks a lot like a ball bat – this would be a beast to play for any lenth of time
Then gives a picture of two rawhide drums as an alternative, a high pitched one and a low pitched one, using the two different sounds to send morse code
And great artwork as expected from Ben Hunt
These articles led to a monthly column in Boy’s Life – The Slide of the Month by Whittlin Jim Column
W Ben Hunt created the Whittlin Jim and Lone Eagle names, and published articles under all three name – Ben Hunt wrote 2-4 articles per month for Boy’s Life, and I think he created the Whittlin Jim and Lone Eagle to make is seem like there were multiple authors writing the articles
