CARMELINA ISABELLE TERRANO MICHAEL, age 87 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life early Wednesday morning, June 16, 2010 at her home.
She was born Saturday, August 19, 1922 at Thomas, WV a daughter of the late Angelo Terrano and Domenica Pinto “Daisy” Terrano. On July 25, 1956 she was married to Omer Ralph Michael, who preceded her in death December 31, 1981. Surviving are one son John Vincent Michael, Elkins; one daughter in law, Kandy Michael, Elkins; two grandchildren, Heather Michael and Ryan Teter and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death are one daughter, Mary Frances Michael and one brother, James V. Terrano, M.D.
She was a graduate of Thomas High School with the Class of 1940 and was a graduate of the W V Beauty College. After graduation, she and her mother Daisy opened the Charm Beauty Shoppe at Thomas. In 1949, she and her mother opened and operated Terrano’s Beauty House at Elkins for forty-nine years until 1998, at which time she retired. She was the hairdresser for the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home for many years. She was chosen “Women of the Day” in 1998 by the Elkins Business and Professional Womens Club. She loved to crochet, knit and work crossword puzzles and was a member of the Saint Brendan Catholic Church.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 to 8 PM, Monday. On Monday, at 7 PM at the funeral home, a prayer service will be recited. On Tuesday, June 22, 2010, Mrs. Michael will be moved to the Saint Brendan Catholic Church where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. The Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs, V.F. will be the Presider and interment will follow at the Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the charity of your choice in memory of Mrs. Michael.
