Carson W. Markley, age 86 years, a resident of Huttonsville, passed away Monday evening, October 26, 2020 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born November 23, 1933 in Mill Creek, a son of the late William J. and Kathleen Parrack Markley. On January 29, 1955 at Huttonsville, he was married to Elaine R. Markley who preceded him in death June 10, 2014. He is survived by two sons, Marshall W. Markley of Cass, WV and Robert W. Markley and wife Elizabeth of Elkins; one daughter, Julie J. Markley-kalar and husband Kevin of Huttonsville. Siblings, Jacqueline Markley (Jackie), Preston Markley (Patricia), Jessie Markley (Cakie), Richard “Dickie” Markley (Ruth), Karen Sue Karras (Pete), Muzine Derge (Dean), Charles “Butch” Markley, Melanie Lindsay (Harold), and William Timothy Markley (Marcie). Four grandchildren, Charles, John and Katherine Markley of Elkins and Abbie Markley of Cass also survive. Also preceding him in death was one sister, Lynda Markley Welsh. Carson was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School with the Class of 1951. He received his Bachelor Degree from Davis & Elkins College, Master’s Degree from Southern Illinois University and continued his education through a Fellowship at Harvard University. He was a Veteran of the United States Army Fourth Infantry Division where he was stationed in Germany. He was a teacher at Tygart Valley High School for one year. He then became a teacher and administrator for the Federal Prison System before becoming Warden at Alderson Federal Prison until his retirement. He then started his thirty five year career as Director of the West Virginia Children’s Home. He was a member of Randolph Lodge No. 55 AF & AM, HW Daniels Post 29 American Legion, Beni Kedem Shrine Temple of Charleston, WV and the Tygart Valley Lions Club.
Friends may call from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 31st from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Pam Richie officiating. Interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville. Randolph Lodge No. 55 AF & AM will conduct Masonic funeral rites at the gravesite. Masks and social distancing will be required for those attending the services for Mr. Markley.
