CECIL C. HILL JR., age 79 years, a resident of Elkins, WV, departed this life late Sunday evening, October 3, 2010 at his home. He had been in declining health.
He was born Sunday, March 1, 1931 at Elkins, WV a son of the late Cecil C. Hill Sr. and Deborah Kyle Hill. On June 24, 1951 at Valley Bend, WV he was married to the former Mary Frances Buchanan, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Stephen Randal Hill and friend Debbie Kellar, Valley Bend; one daughter, Denise Ann Hill Collins, Elkins; two granddaughters, Stephanie Ann Hill Davidson and Matthew Swecker, Elisa Dawn Rosencrance White and husband Joseph; five great grandchildren, Allen Sisler, Brandon Davidson, Dalton, Jordon and Joselynn Swecker; and a special niece, Margaret Lynn Shaffer.
Preceding him in death was one sister, Katherine Elizabeth Shaffer.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1949 and joined the U S Air Force in 1952, serving four years as an Instructor of Air Craft Maintenance. He was a graduate of Davis & Elkins College, with the Class of 1961, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. After college he was employed with the Pittsburgh District of the U S Army Corp of Engineers, the U S Forest Service – Monongahela National Forest and retired from the W V Department of Highways as an Inspector. He was a member of the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29, American Legion and was an avid outdoorsman.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Wednesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 2 PM. The Rev. Dr. Peter A. Vial will officiate and interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville, WV, where full military rites will be conducted by members of the H.W. Daniel’s Post # 29, American Legion and the Tygart’s Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military rites.
