Charles David Mace Sr., 87, a resident of the Jimtown community, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2002, at 9:55 p.m. at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past six weeks.
He was born Oct. 20, 1914, at Linwood, Pocahontas County, a son of the late Charles Henry and Birdie Ann Jackson Mace.
On Nov. 10, 1939, he was united in marriage to the former Mona Adelene Hymes, who survives at Jimtown.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Iris) Riffle and Mrs. Andrew (Trudy) Mahanes, both of Jimtown, and Mrs. Joseph (Brenda) Sandella of Ashtabula, Ohio; three sons, Gerald Mace and wife, Lorraine, of Warren, Ohio, Charles Davis Mace Jr., at home, and Carl Mace and wife, Nancy, of Norton; one brother, Ralph Richard Mace of Thomas; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were five sisters, Zella Hoyle, Mary Jaggie, Alea Jack, Lucy Sturdivant and Leanna Mace; five brothers, Paul, James and Guy Mace and two infants; two grandchildren, Jennifer Mahanes and Terry Riffle; and four great-grandchildren, Justin and Jessica Riffle and Joshua and Elizabeth Mace.
He was a self-employed woodsman and retired coal miner, having last been employed by DeMotto Coal Co. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to ginseng. He was a member of the UMWA District 31 and Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday after 4 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner chapel on Wednesday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Lorren Godwin, pastor of the World of Pentecost Worship Center, will officiate. Interment will follow in Phillips Chapel Cemetery at Jimtown.
