Charles H. Rucker, 82, of Swiss and of Route 1, Buckhannon, where he had made his home with his son, Wilbur, for the past six months, died at 2:35 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past month.
Mr. Rucker was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Swiss, a son of the late Christopher Columbus and Mary Jane Elzick Rucker.
He married the former Rebecca Irene Cummings, who preceded him in death on June 14, 1984.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Emma Jean) Smith, Buckhannon, and Anna May Gregory, Wooster, Ohio; five sons, Gary Lee Rucker, Michigan, Charles Robert Rucker and wife, Janet, Spencer, Johnny Harry Rucker and wife, Diane, Cassity, Wilbur Wesley Rucker and wife, Annabelle, Wooster, Ohio, and Herman Ray Rucker, Creston, Ohio; two sisters, Madeline Bowles, Tacoma, Ohio, and Ollie Whitaker, Swiss; 26 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Ann Rucker; two sons, Teddy Rucker and Richard Chris Rucker; two sisters, two brothers, John and Jessie Rucker; and two granddaughters, Patricia Ann Rucker and Heather Rucker.
Mr. Rucker was a lineman on the railroad and was employed for the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was last employed as a night watchman for Summersville Mining Co., from where he retired in 1982.
He was a Protestant by faith.
