Charles Pownell 1929-2001 Obituary
Charles Albert Pownell, 762 of Kerens, died Nov. 1, at the Louis A Johnson VA Medical Center, Clarksburg.
He was born August 26, 1929 at Fairmont, a son of the late Charles D. Pownell and Mamie Ruth Hansford Pownell Morrison and stepfather, Carlton L. “Jack” Morrison. He was never married.
Surviving are four brothers, Philip (and Inez) Pownell, Baltimore, Robert (and Pansy) Pownell, Leavittsburg, OH, Jerry (and Olive) Morrison, Pheasant Run, Terry (and Wanda) Morrison, Wilmington, NC; a sister , Frances “Jean” Hinkel, Baltimore; several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was a disabled veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He attended the one room school at Pheasant Run, was a 1948 graduate of Parsons High school, and attended college at Fairmont. He served with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, was a member of the former Farmers Chapel Church at Pheasant Run and a member of the Riverview Chapel Church of Porterwood.
Friends were received at the Barb-Greenlief Funeral Home where final rites were conducted Nov. 5. Pastor Harris Fansler officiated and interment followed at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman.
