Charles Robert Cathell Sr., 71, of Rt. #1, Belington, died Friday morning, May 7, at the home of his daughter, Sharon J. Ware of Johnson Avenue, Belington. He had been in declining health but his death was sudden and unexpected. He was born June 25, 1938, at Belington, W.Va., a son of the late Clifford Bud and Stella Margaret (Hymes) Cathell. On February 6, 1960, he was united in marriage to the former Ethel Lou Monahan, who preceded him in death on July 4, 2000. Survivors include, two daughters, Kimberly Summers and Sharon J. Ware, both of Belington; two sisters, Nina Jean Wyatt, Ohio, Betty Ann Woods, of Elkins, and half sister Christina Parsons; five grandchildren, Gary Hartley Jr., Charles Howard Zirkle, April Dawn Hartley, Jason William Ware and Heidi LeAnn Ware; three great grandchildren, Breanna Nicole Streets, Caitlin Rose Starkey and Cameron Michael Ware; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by one son, Charles Robert Cathell Jr., one infant daughter, and one brother, Thomas J. “Sonny” Cathell. Mr. Cathell was a truck driver he had worked for D and W Truck Lines of Parsons and was a member of the Belington Senior Center and loved going to various Churches in Belington and surrounding areas. “Poor Boy” was his handle on Citizen Band Radio. Charlie loved working on cars and spending time in his garden. He also loved being around people as he would sit at the park bench at the Belington Shop and Save and helped park cars during the Barbour County Fair. Charlie will be missed by all those who loved him and especially his two daughters who provided care to him in the last months of his life. Mr. Cathell’s request for cremation was honored and interment of his cremated remains will be held at a later date in Concord Cemetery near Belington. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Calvary Mission Church in Belington. The Rev. Wayne Freeman and The Rev. Howard Biller will officiate. Schoonover-stemple Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
