Charles William Rhodes, age 81 years, a resident of Dryfork, WV, departed this life Sunday afternoon January 31, 2010 at the Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born Thursday, May 3, 1928 at Hopkins Mine on Cheat Mountain, a son of the late Charles Oley Rhodes and Zetta Hamrick Rhodes. On July 12, 1950 at Red House, MD, he was married to the former Savannah E. Teter, who survives. They had celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son, Lawrence M. Rhodes and wife, Karen, Red Creek, two step sons, Clinton White and wife, Madeline, Elkins, and Steve White and wife, Jeannie, Belington, three daughters, Debbie A. Cooper and husband, Mike, Brenda L. Wolford and husband, Ron, all of Dry Fork, and Linda S. Nestor and husband, Darrell, Sugarland, two step daughters, Shirley Jean Shreves, Elkins, and Judy Arbogast and husband, Robert, Ohio, seven brothers, Raymond, Earl, Forrest, Willie, Harry, Ralph and Ronald Rhodes and seven sisters, Faye, Marie, Margie, Wretha, Alice, Emma Jean and Roseanna, nineteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are one step daughter, Violet Bohon, five brothers, McClellan, James “Jim”, Lloyd, Arthur and Everett Rhodes and five sisters, Donna, Retta, Louemma, Emma, and one infant.
He attended the schools of Glady, had worked for the Western Maryland Railroad as a Track Hand for over thirty-five years, retiring in 1981, and he was an avid outdoorsman.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 7 PM, Tuesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 12 P.M. The Reverend Robert L. Lowther will officiate and interment will follow at the Smith Family Cemetery at Jenningston, WV.
