CHERYL LYNN DEAVERS COLLINS, age 59 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life late Tuesday evening, March 23, 2010 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, WV. She had been in declining health for the past five years and death was attributed to complications of a stroke.
She was born Monday, March 27, 1950 at Charleston, WV a daughter of the late Fred Lorraine Deavers and Thelma B. West Deavers Currence. On June 26, 1971 at Elkins, she was married to William Harper Collins, who survives. Also surviving are one son, William Todd Collins, VA; one sister, Carol Deavers Fretwell and husband Sylvester, Elkins and one granddaughter, Morgan Heather McDonald.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1968 and the Davis Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She practiced nursing for over thirty years at the Davis Memorial Hospital, Nella’s at Crystal Springs, Nella’s Nursing Home on Central Street and Colonial Place. She was a pianist at the Otterbein United Methodist Church as a teenager, she helped with the local American Heart Association, loved crocheting, making jewelry, playing the piano and singing and was an avid collector of clowns and angels. She is a member of the First Church of Christ of Elkins, where she was a former member of the choir and was instrumental in starting a prayer shawl ministry.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Friday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 11 AM. Evangelist Gary Kendall and Pastor Michael Courtwright will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Chestnut Mountain Ranch, P. O. Box 757, Morgantown, WV 26507 or to the First Church of Christ Building Fund, 300 Worth Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241.
