Chester Allen Roth 86, of Eglon, West Virginia passed away from this life on December 16, 2021, at Garrett Regional Medical Center of Oakland, Maryland.

He was born in Horseshoe Run, West Virginia on April 7, 1935. A son of the late William Wesley and Grace Nelvina Rembold Roth. He was married to his late wife Glenomi Phelps for 43 years. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one brother Charles Edward and sister-in-law Carol Sue, three brothers-in-law Eugene Bachtel, William and John Phelps and three sisters-in-law Donna Phelps, Carolyn Lambert and Ruth Makepeace Myers.

He survived by two daughters Kathy Lynn Crickard and husband Terry of Eglon, West Virginia and Kristy Lee Knotts and husband Rick of Lake Havasu, Arizonia, a longtime girlfriend, companion and caregiver Renee Gaither of Eglon, West Virginia. Four grandchildren Shannon Stemple and wife Julie, Rebecca Sliwinski and husband Derek, Courtney Fletcher-Elder and husband Brandon, and Logan Knotts. Seven great grandchildren Townsend and Triston Stemple, Sawyer and Addison Flansler, Vivian Sliwinski, Wesley Fletcher and Memphis Elder. Renee Gaither’s daughters and grandchildren were part of his family as well. Bethany Donaldson and husband John and their children Zakary, Dakota, Skyler, and Isabella. Karen Flores and husband Jason and their children Kaden and Rylee. One sister Bernadine Bachtel of Eglon, West Virginia. One sister-in-law Judy Cummins of Edenton, North Carolina. As well as several nieces and nephews.

He was a great, loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, Uncle and friend.

He had worked at multiple jobs as a saw miller, farmer, at a glass factory, a gas attendant, mechanic, ambulance driver, and at a pipe factory. In 1970, bought his family’s farm and owned and operated his own sawmill, then went to work for Coastal Lumber Company, a guard at Bauch and Lomb, then retired from Bauer’s Lumber Company and eventually from farming.

He loved working on the farm and enjoyed hunting. But his most passion was playing and singing in two separate bands. The Saturday Nite Pickers in his earlier years which they performed for the Governor of West Virginia Jay Rockefeller. Hammer and Strings band out of Oakland, Maryland for some 20 years in which they performed for the President Bill Clinton in Washington Dc. He learned to play the guitar at the age of 7, in time over the years he could
play most string instruments plus the organ.

Chester request for cremation and no services was honored. A Farewell Celebration will be held sometime in 2022.
