Clarence Glen “Butch” McLaughlin, Jr., age 63 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life early Thursday morning, November 21, 2013 at his home. He had been in declining health although death was unexpected.
He was born Monday, October 30, 1950 at Elkins, WV a son of the late Clarence Glen McLaughlin, Sr., and Cleva Stalnaker McLaughlin. On December 24, 1994 at Elkins, WV he was married to the former Pamela Sue Glover, who survives. Also surviving are one stepson, Spencer Christain Zoller and wife Anna, of Raleigh, NC; two step grandchildren, Abby and Grace Zoller, both of Raleigh, NC; two step nieces Tracy Gooden, of Elkins; and Valerie Gunther, of Raleigh, NC; and his two special cats, Cary and Molly.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceding him in death is one sister, Mary Jane.
Butch was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School with the Class of 1968, and attended Potomac State College. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during the Vietnam Era and upon his return from service, graduated from Davis & Elkins College. He had previously worked as a social worker with the Child Protective Services at the Department of Health and Human Resources and later worked as the Veterans Representative at the Elkins Job Service for many years, from which he retired.
He was a member of the Cheat Mountain Surf Fishing Association, Ducks Unlimited and the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29, American Legion. He enjoyed his many fishing trips to Maryland and Hatteras Island with his fishing buddies from many states.
Butch’s request for cremation was honored. A Private Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date.
