Clifford James Summerfield 1957-2022 Obituary
On Sunday March 20th of 2022, Clifford James Summerfield departed this life at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born April 6th, 1957 in Elkins WV, the only son of the late Verlon Summerfield and the late Carolyn Ketterman Thompson. During high school he entered into the United States Army, where he served honorably for three years active duty as a heavy equipment operator and served a tour overseas in Germany. He was employed by the United Mine Workers of America as a coal miner and also worked at Weyerhaeuser at Flatwoods, WV. Jim was surrounded by multiple aunts and uncles on both sides of his family that embraced him as a beloved nephew. He was also encompassed by several cousins that have shared a lifetime of joyous memories and laughs with him. Jim attended several church services at Wayside Baptist Church where he enjoyed watching his mother play the piano. His contagiously boisterous laugh will be missed by all who knew him as he loved to make others smile. Jim was always on the move and loved to travel. Over the years he called many places home and even more people ‘friend’. He never knew a stranger and he simply did not talk negatively about anyone in his life.
br>To all those that worked with him in the mines and at the mill, he appreciated the friendship with each of you. He fondly shared many ‘funny stories’ about pranks and jests from those he worked with over the years. He was always very light-hearted and easy going. Many of us knew him ‘fondly’ as ‘Jungle Jim’ and we will miss him. Until we meet again. In honoring his wishes, Jim will be cremated and his memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Clifford James Summerfield. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com.
