Danny “Buck” Roy Jr. 1942-2021 Obituary
Danny “Buck” Roy, Jr. age 78 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life late Tuesday evening, September 21, 2021 at the WV Caring Hospice Center in Elkins, WV.
He was born Sunday, October 4, 1942 in Harding, WV a son of the late Danny and Mary Teresa Sainato Roy. On October 5, 1966 at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Coalton, WV he was married to the former Darlene Ann Smith, who survives in Elkins. They would have celebrated fifty-five years of marriage on October 5, 2021. Also surviving are one son, Daniel Roy III of Elkins, two daughters Carla Casella and husband Bill of Winchester, VA, Jennifer Roy-winans of Elkins; one brother, David Roy and wife Martha of Elkins; three sisters, Jane Fox and husband Chet of Knoxville, TN, Terry Broschart and husband David of Jimtown, Sarah Phillips and husband Danny of Jimtown; and six grandchildren, Jacob Roy and Alexis Roy of Valdosta, GA; John Casella and Rachel Casella of Winchester, VA, and Isaac Winans and Grace Winans of Elkins, WV. Buck is preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Crouch.
Buck received his first Holy Communion at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church on December 25, 1950. He was a graduate of Coalton High School with the Class of 1960 and worked as a heavy equipment operator for Roblee Coal for several years. After retirement Buck continued to work another five years for J.F. Allen Aggregates Quarry. Buck was also a Staff Sergeant with the United States Army National Guard serving 20 years with Battery A, 1st Battalion, 201st Field Artillery and earned the Army Commendation Medal. While serving he assisted law enforcement containing the trucker’s strike in the early 1970’s. Buck was also a skilled auto mechanic and body man. Other hobbies he enjoyed included hunting, gardening, making knives, walking sticks and fire pokers. Above all, Buck was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home in Elkins, WV with Pastor Jeremiah Jasper officiating. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Danny “Buck Roy Jr. and per his request his remains were donated to the Human Gift Registry at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine at Lewisburg, WV.
