David Elliot Jacobson 1956-2021 Obituary
David Elliot Jacobson passed from this life on Dec. 25 at Monongahela General Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born Jan. 6, 1956, in Plainfield, New Jersey, to Virginia Bergen Jacobson and Denman F. Jacobson. Dave grew up in Troy, Michigan, attending Birmingham schools and later majoring in history at Central Michigan University.
He joined the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve and attended Officer Candidate School but was honorably discharged for medical reasons. His early career was in media sales, which was followed by work in logistics. He moved to West Virginia in 2009 and retired in August 2019 from Canaan Valley Resort State Park, where he had held several positions in operations and sales.
Dave loved his family and his country. He was a lifelong student of American history and read voraciously both military history and biography. Dave was a patriot who valued loyalty, duty and honor.
His other steadfast passion was the game of baseball — he was a Little League pitcher as a boy, played softball in an adult league, and coached for the Troy Cardinals and Birmingham Cubs. He was an ardent fan of the Detroit Tigers and was also a loyal, if beleaguered, Lions football fan.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Karen, her husband, Tony Barnes; his nephew, Chris Barnes, all of Dryfork; and cousins in both the Bergen and Jacobson families. He is also survived by Norman and Charlotte Eichner, to whom he was “Uncle Dave,” and their father Bruce, Dave’s lifelong friend.
Due to the pandemic, services will consist of small gatherings of family and friends. Arrangements are being handled by Dering-henson Funeral Home in Morgantown.
