DAVID THOMAS “DAVE” JUDY, age 84 years, a well known businessman, and a resident of Elkins, WV, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning July 18, 2010 at the Nella’s Nursing Home in Elkins.
He was born Thursday, July 23, 1925 at Dry Fork, WV, a son of the late Leon and Grace Mongold Judy. On January 27, 1947 at Oakland, Md, he was married to the former Althea June Lawerence, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Kenneth Judy of Lanesville, WV, Leland Judy and wife Jan of Gering, NE and The Rev. Anthony Judy and wife Charlotte of Morgantown; one brother, Earl Judy and wife Eleanor of MD; one sister, Helen Arnold of DE; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are one brother, Leon Judy; two sisters, Mildred Gilbert and Kathleen Armstrong; an infant sister and a granddaughter, Pamela Judy.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1943 and a graduate of West Virginia University in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry. He was a Veteran of the United States Army Air Force during WWII as a Staff Sergeant and Gunner on the B24 Liberator, where he earned three Bronze Stars. He was a successful business owner. He owned and operated David T. Judy Lumber Co for fifty three years. He was also a Private Pilot. He had a passion for flying airplanes, helicopters and hunting. He attended the New Life Fellowship Church.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Wednesday from 2 to 4PM and 6 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 2 PM. Pastor J.R. Mayle will officiate and interment will follow at the Lanesville Bethel Church Cemetery at Lanesville, WV, where the H.W Daniel’s Post #29, American Legion and the Tygart’s Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military rites.
