Delbert Harvey “Dave” Davis, 81, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2010, at his home in south Elkins. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected. He was born Wednesday, June 5, 1929, in Idamay, WV, a son of the late Harvey and Virgie Harsh Davis. On March 14, 1952, he married Geraldine Skidmore, who survives. In addition, he is survived by a daughter, Barbara, and her husband Greg Mergenthaler, of Elkins, a granddaughter, Jamie and friend James Gilbert, of Elkins, a grandson, Brent and his wife Kristyn, of Barboursville, WV, one sister, Betty, of Florida, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Bob, one half-sister, Dorothy, and one half-brother, Gene. Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Air Force as a weather observer from 1947 to 1951. He worked for several companies throughout his life in the electronics/communications field. He was an avid saltwater fisherman, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and took great joy in the lives of his grandchildren. At Dave’s request his body will be cremated. The family will have a memorial service at a later date. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of contributions to the Randolph County Humane Society (195 Weese St. Ext., PO Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241) in memory of Dave.
