Delmer D. Swecker 1902-2002 Obituary

Delmer D. Swecker, 99, died Monday, May 27, 2002, in Daytona Beach, Fla.

He was formerly of Lawrence Park and resided with his wife, Helen Mae Rogers Swecker, at 814 Colonial Circle, Daytona Beach, Fla.

He was born in Huttonsville, on Aug. 6, 1902, a son of the late Joseph and Caroline Gear Swecker.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one sister, Iona VanGilder of Clarksburg; one stepdaughter, Nancy Bowser of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one grandson, David Rogers of Erie, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a wife, Melva Koons; two daughters, Eileen and Marian Swecker; two sisters, Annie Rosencrance and Lucy McGee; and five brothers, Joseph, Woodrow, Auten, Brad and and Orion Swecker.

He moved to Lawrence Park in 1923 and was the oldest living member of the Lawrence Park United Methodist Church. He retired from the Erie General Electric after about 40 years service as a welder and was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the GE Fishing Club. He was an Air Raid Warden during World War II. He built the lockers where the boats were stored at the GE Fishing Club. He was a member of the Tyrian-commonwealth Lodge 362 F. and A.M. and was a longtime member of the Lawrence Park Fire Department. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and bowler.

Friends may call at the G.R. Bailey Funeral Home, 4396 Iroquois Ave., today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. where funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Randy Roda of the Lawrence Park United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today.
